The Maitland is one of two major rivers feeding the eastern shore of Lake Huron. Fishermen arrive from Michigan and Ohio to catch Rainbow and Salmon.

The railway trestle is now part of Maitland trail. This is a well maintained scenic path for walking and biking. The trail is about six miles in length.

Goderich has beautiful beaches and sunsets. A wooden boardwalk along the beach extends 1-1/4 miles from the Harbour to Rotary Cove.
